Beyond The Basics

Pirate Diver

Search & Discover the Treasure of Pirates

The PADI Pirate Diver Course

What is a Pirate Diver? A pirate diver is adventurer, and explorer who searches for the treasure of a pirate. They have an interest in scuba diving and learning more about pirates. Since there are many kinds of pirates, you will be encouraged to think “like a pirate”. Using clues and maps, you too may find “gold bullion”. Just like a pirate you will have a buddy to decipher and plan your dives and execute it to the best of your ability and within your training and experience.

Scuba diving has always felt like a bit of a treasure hunt. Many factors can affect the success or failure of any pirate dive conducted underwater. Those of particular importance are surface conditions, underwater visibility, depth, bottom topography, bottom composition, vegetation, accessibility, surge, tides, currents, accuracy of bearings, water temperature, pollution, and obstacles or hazards. The size, weight, and dimensions of the objects to be discovered and the directions and clues given will also plays a huge role.

The goal of this course is to for SCUBA divers to learn a systematic, methodical approach to the search and discover of submerged objects. Student divers will develop the techniques involved in locating and documenting found objects within recreational limits and while avoiding disturbing delicate marine life. The mechanics of the search are truly an art; while the principles applied to the operation are firmly grounded in science.

The Fun Part

So you want to be a Pirate Diver? As kids a lot of us grew up dreaming of finding buried treasures, maybe even pretended to be pirates. We may have buried the spoils of our playtime in the back yard with plans to dig it up the next time we entered our fantasy world. For some of us, we never outgrew part of that fantasy and even today as divers we hope that one day we find something valuable or a unique piece of history buried at sea. With this in mind, the philosophy of this course is to focus on fun and challenging underwater navigation and discovery.  We've added in some fun facts and aspects about Pirates, too.  You will know more about Pirates than ever before.
